Growth scan update

I just had a growth scan this morning. All looked good, but LO was not cooperating, so we didn't get any pictures. I'm a little bummed (I really wanted to bring one to my shower on Saturday).

But it looks like Rosie is going to be a big baby! At 30w2d, she is measuring in the 97th percentile at 4lb7oz already. I have a feeling I'm looking at a c/s.

I also found out that due to the GD, they won't even be letting me go to my EDD... If she doesn't come early on her own, I'll be getting induced or a c/s, at latest, some time during the week before.

It's starting to feel very real all of a sudden!

Re: Growth scan update

  • Yay for a healthy growing baby!!

I'm sorry about the GD potentially forcing things a little early, but it's definitely better to take care of your health than wait 1 little week.

I hope Rosie slows down her roll so you're not forced into a c/s!

  • I wouldn't let the growth scan worry you too much. They can be off. DD measured big the whole time and we had a growth scan at 32 weeks that said she was 4 lbs 10 oz. I ended up going a week late with her and she was born at 8 lbs 2 oz. So on the larger side but nothing huge considering she was a week late. In contrast DS was 2 days early, measured right on track my entire pregnancy and was born at 9 lbs even.

Also hoping you can avoid a C/S (if thats what you want.) You never know what your body is capable of ahead of time.

  • I was measuring 2 weeks behind starting at 20 weeks. At the last stretch, I was going in for u/s every week for 4 weeks because DD was measuring 4lbs 15oz and wasn't growing. I was induced 1 1/2 weeks early so she could grow better on the outside. She was born 6lbs .5 ounces.

I wouldn't worry about it to much.

  • I'm glad it went well and sorry that she wasn't cooperating.

Oh aaaanndd ummm, my mom had me vaginally. I weighed 10lbs, 2oz. I think I need to apologize to her.

If your body can handle vaginal, it will. Hope their measurements are off!

  • How is you GD going?

My ob said that too - induced or c/s at 39 weeks. But I did so well keeping my GD under control she said I could go to 40 weeks.

We had a scheduled c/s at 40 weeks due to DS being breech. He decided to come at 39 weeks on his own.

  • Thanks everyone!

@madeline10L and @cinderin, the GD is going ok.  I've been following the diet to the T, but it wasn't bringing my numbers down... so they did put me on insulin last wednesday.  It will help bring my numbers into range for about a day, and then the next day they're spiking again, so they keep upping my doses.

They said that between now and 36 weeks, I'll probably become increasingly insulin resistant, so they'll probably be chasing my numbers for the next several weeks.

It's kind of a pain in the butt, since i now have weekly appointments in the clinic, but I am glad that they're keeping a close eye on things, so I guess I can't complain too much.  It could definitely be worse and it will all be worth it in the end.

    Bummer about the insulin :-(

I hope they are helping you with the diet too. I noticed different carbs (whole wheat bread vs. potatoes vs. fruit, etc) gave me drastically different numbers. Also things like protein, fiber, hydration, exercise and sleep changed my numbers too.

I was having weekly u/s and twice weekly NSTs from 34 weeks or so on. previous to that it was weekly NSTs and an u/s every two weeks (I was diagnosed at 24 weeks).

I was on 1.25 mg Glyburide from 24 weeks.

You are right, it could be worse :-) The time will go by quickly!

  • After I had Ava Nichol we asked our OB what their cutoff for a vaginal delivery is and she said 11lbs. :-O I cannot imagine. Ava Nichol was 8lbs 4 oz and seemed huge particularly since we were expecting a small baby!

I hope that all goes well and LO is a reasonable size at birth time! Sorry you didn't get any pictures!

My H was 11 lbs at birth and his mom had him vaginally. I'm not sure weight necessarily matters all that much though. Obviously it matters some, but I had a really easy delivery with Zack (only 2 hours of labor at the hospital and 2 pushes) whereas with Delilah I pushed for an hour and a half. It could be because he was my second but I'm guessing positioning, pelvic shape, how relaxed you are, etc...may also make a difference.
